Exterior Tick Treatment

Ticks are one of the major animal threats on Long Island and the surrounding areas, mainly due to the diseases they spread. Lyme Disease is the most well-known disease spread through tick bites and it is a serious health threat not only due to its prevalence in the New York area but also the serious effects on the heart and nervous system. Lyme Disease is a bacteria that will bring fever, migraines and fatigue a week after a tick bite. If not treated, these symptoms will progress to joint pain, facial paralysis, memory problems and irregular heart beat, all of which can last for six months after an infection.

Lyme Disease is not the only infectious disease for which ticks serve as a vector. There are fifteen diseases spread by ticks and eight of these have been reported on Long Island, two of which are often transmitted together with Lyme Disease. In 2013, the Health Department received official reports for infections resulting from Long Island tick bite cases including 34 anaplasmosis, 193 babesiosis, 46 ehrlichiosis, 566 Lyme Disease and 8 Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Some estimates even indicate that these numbers may be under reported by a factor of ten due to an inability to identify the symptoms.

Clearly ticks are blood sucking pests that no one wants infesting their home, but their presence can be difficult for some people to detect until it is too late. Arrow Exterminating is the solution for your tick dilemma and will work to both rid your property of this dangerous menace and help prevent its return. Signs of a Tick Infestation

A tick infestation can result from a single tick being carried into the home on your skin, clothing or with a pet. With their abundance throughout grassy areas in the region, it is all too easy for these vampyric invaders to hitch a ride and begin to multiply in your home. Unlike spiders that leave webs to signal their presence or ants or roaches that are attracted to dropped food, tick infestations are most often discovered by finding them feasting on your blood. Check pets often for ticks and make sure to inspect the bodies of family members and yourself after coming in from grassy or wooded areas. Look for ticks in warm areas such as the armpit, groin and scalp and be aware of family members who present the symptoms of tick borne diseases such as fever, rash, joint pain and headaches.

If you find a tick attached to your body or that of a pet or family member, but careful when removing it. Contrary to the commonly circulating myths, do not use Vaseline, oil or alcohol to kill the tick while it is on your skin, since these folk remedies will cause the tick's mouth to stay lodged in the skin and lead to infection. Instead, grasp the tick with tweezers as close as possible to your skin and pull it out with slow, steady pressure so that it will release safely. Then call Arrow Exterminating to remove the infestation in and around your home.

How Arrow Exterminating Eradicates Ticks

1

Determine Treatment Area

Our technicians will study your home and the surrounding area to determine which spaces are most conducive to tick infestation. Ticks prefer grassy, wooded and wet areas but they are also attracted to rodent and wildlife populations. By identifying these areas, Arrow Exterminating can both remove their habitat and find the ideal locations to target them for extermination.

2

Deploy Tick Tubes

Tick tubes are specialized extermination devices for eliminating ticks before they have a chance to bite humans. They work by providing local mice with treated cotton to make their nests. The mice carry the pesticide infused cotton into their burrows for nesting where they are then attacked by ticks. This puts the ticks into direct contact with the pesticide as they latch onto the rodents and the tick population can be killed before it has a chance to threaten humans.

3

Use Granular and Liquid Pesticide

Both granular and liquid pesticides may be used to treat tick infestations and prevent their return. Areas around the home can be treated with liquid pesticide that is not harmful to pets or humans but that will act as a powerful deterrent to the influx of ticks. This should be used in conjunction with other methods to ensure that ticks are stopped before they make entry into your home or feast on your blood.

4

Follow-up Treatment

Arrow Exterminating is committed to ridding your home and property of ticks and this may require a follow-up visit to test for the return of these disease-ridden pests. We will come back and conduct additional inspection and take steps to combat any new population growth should it occur.
