The Purpose of Rodent Awareness Week
There’s a reason that Rodent Awareness Week usually takes place in the fall. That’s because rodents are still prevalent in the cold weather months. Insects may become dormant in fall or winter, but rodents can strike all year round.
Rodent Awareness Week is the brainchild of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and it will run from October 21 to October 27. There are several tips that NPMA offers to protect you from rodents:
- Secure your exterior: Seal any cracks or holes you see outside your home, paying particular attention to places where pipes and utility lines enter your home. Also be sure to replace loose mortar and weather stripping around your building’s foundation and windows.
- Be careful what’s nearby: Look out for things that could hide rodents. Keep shrubbery and trees away from exterior walls and store firewood at least 20 feet away from your home.
- Don’t attract rodents: Don’t make your home or business something rodents seek out. Keep your basements and attics clean and store your boxes off the floor. Be careful of moisture and look out for standing water like leaky pipes or clogged drains. Make certain all of your food is kept in rodent free containers.
- Take Care of the Problem: The most important thing you can do if you believe you have a rodent problem is to call the professionals at Arrow Exterminating to make sure you’re protected.
