How dangerous are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are not destructive to property and are not a significant hazard to people. However, they can still rise to the level of extreme nuisance for any homeowner. A bed bug infestation will disturb your daily routine. People with infestations report anxiety, disturbed sleep or insomnia, trouble treating their bites, and expensive or ineffective DIY treatments.

In rare cases, bed bug bites can cause allergic reactions or severe symptoms that should be examined by a medical professional as soon as possible.

Are bed bug bites painful?

You won’t feel bed bug bites when they happen. This is because they happen while you’re sleeping and also because bed bugs inject an anesthetic and anticoagulant that prevents you from feeling any pain. Pain and/or irritation will begin anywhere from a few hours to a few days later. The most common symptom is itchiness. Symptoms will worsen if you scratch the bites.
