Could You Have a Rodent Problem In Your Home?

May 9, 2014

ratRodents are common household pests throughout the Long Island area. If your home is suffering from a rodent infestation, the health and safety of your family could be at risk. Rodents, such as rats and mice, carry a variety of dangerous diseases that can be very harmful to humans. In addition, a rodent colony can cause significant damage to your home. To identify whether you need to call a pest control company, here is a look at some of the signs that your home has a rodent problem.

Droppings

Rats and mice will leave droppings wherever they take up residence. In your home, you may spot rodent droppings around your kitchen cabinets, in your cupboards, or in any other dark and hidden spaces. If you notice small droppings around your home, there is a chance that you are sharing your house with unwelcome rodents.

Sounds

Rodents are highly vocal creatures. If you have rodents in your home, you may be able to hear squeaks, chirps, and other vocalizations. These sounds may come from your cupboards or behind your walls. You may also be able to hear rodents as they scurry from place to place.

Nests

A rodent colony raises its young in soft, fluffy nests. To spot a rodent infestation, you may look for the signs of nests throughout your home. Rodent nests are typically made up of fuzzy or warm materials, such as batting, fabric, or paper. If you find a nest in your home, you should call a pest control company right away.
