The cockroach is one of the most successful insects and has evolved to live with humans. These pests infest homes and businesses that feed on dead and decaying organic matter.
DIY Cockroach Control
Products such as Roach Motels help homeowners to kill off some of the cockroaches that live in home or business, but have you noticed that there always are more cockroaches? That’s because DIY cockroach products have a design that keeps you the consumer coming back to buy more. One of the problems with these types of products is that they only kill off the cockroaches that comes into contact with the product. That is usually not the entire population of cockroaches in your home or business.
In fact, these products do very little about cockroach eggs or nymphs. Once the eggs hatch, a new batch of cockroaches emerge.
To effectively control cockroaches in your home, you need a professional.
Cockroach and Breeding
Female cockroaches generally produce around 50 eggs per breeding cycle. The life cycle lasts for about 100 days. That is also why you have periods where the population seems small, and then suddenly there are cockroaches everywhere. To control cockroach populations, you need a professional who understands how to use pesticides and baits that wipe out the entire population.
There are some things you can do yourself to help control cockroaches. One of those is to make sure that left over food is not available. In an apartment, cockroaches go from unit to unit, but they go where they smell decomposing food. They are highly attracted to the smell of rotting then, even if it is just a small amount of food. By making sure that your floors clean and swept, counters clean, and that you take out that garbage daily, you help to create a space that does not offer much to cockroaches. There are not inquisitive creatures; they strictly go where the food is.
